Thursday was the annual Salon Competition for the Tallahassee Professional Photographer’s Guild. Though I’ve been a member for the last 4 Salons, this was my first time entering. I wanted to get a feel for what competition was like before entering the first year, and the last two years, I was out of the country and having a baby! This year I finally got to enter and I was so honored/amazed/thrilled with the final results. I entered 6 images (some from this year and some older images), and the five below were chosen as merit images! The thing I’m most proud of for these images is that they were all taken as client images. None of these were shot for competition or set up or posed to be competition images but the judges thought they were worthy of a merit. I was pretty proud of that!

I am considering entering the 5 merit images into the Florida Professional Photographer’s Guild’s competition in Orlando later this summer. I’m hoping to be able to attend the state convention and print competition!

I am so honored to have won the “Portrait of a Group” category at our local Professional Photographer’s Guild print competition again this month.

I haven’t shared this session yet because the dad is currently serving our Air Force in Iraq. This family participated in Operation Love ReUnited, and I have shipped an album of images for him to enjoy while he is overseas. He hasn’t seen the photos yet and I will keep the rest a surprise until he gets the album, but I did want to share this one image, which won in March’s print competition.

This is 3 year old Sienna with her daddy, William P. This whole session made me teary eyed when I was editing it, and I can’t wait to share the rest!

This image was taken during a session for Operation Love ReUnited, which is a wonderful organization for military members who are deploying or returning from deployment to have a complimentary photography session with an album sent overseas to them. If you or someone you know is currently serving in our military and facing a deployment, please look into this organization!

I am a member of the Tallahassee Professional Photographer’s Guild, and at our meetings every month, members submit images for print competition. Prior to tonight, I had never participated because I was a little nervous, and because I usually forget to plan ahead enough to order images from my lab in time for the monthly meetings. I decided that in 2011 I was going to submit images every month, because it’s nerve-wracking, but fun, and it’s great for the critique you receive. Tonight’s meeting was the first time I ever submitted images, and I am so excited because one of my images was chosen not only for the Portrait of a Group category but also for the overall Print of the Month winner.

This is the winning image, from a session I shot at Oven Park last October.
