Lila is a very special little girl. Her mama, Casey, had some very serious and scary childbirth complications and both mama and baby had to fight hard to overcome some struggles after the birth. Lila was in the NICU for 5 days but is doing amazing and has gotten to go home with daddy and wait for mommy as she continues to recover in the hospital. Casey is one of the strongest women I know and she has been fighting so hard and making amazing strides. The doctors expect her to be in the hospital for several more weeks, but I have a feeling she will surprise us all and get to come home sooner than expected. She’s so strong and determined and I know she is impatient to get to go home with her baby girl! I felt so honored to get to photograph this family. They are absolutely wonderful — loving, kind, and a foundation of strength for each other. Nobody deserves to go through the pain and difficulties they have faced recently but they have handled it with grace and courage and I know they will come through it all stronger than ever. Casey could use some extra prayers right now that she recovers quickly and can come home soon with her baby girl, her two older girls, and her husband.
I was so sad when I heard about Casey’s illness, and that she couldn’t be at Lila’s newborn session, but I’m so glad that her family decided to go ahead with the session. I dropped everything to edit the photos as quickly as possible so that Casey could look at photos of her baby while she recovers in the hospital, and I felt so honored to be able to do that for their family. It’s not much, but when something like this happens to someone you know, it’s nice to feel like you can do something small to cheer them up.
Lila is absolutely beautiful and we had an amazing newborn session with her! I’m looking forward to going back and taking family photos (since Lila makes them a family of five!) when Casey gets home from the hospital. I know there are a lot of people praying for their family and Casey is so strong that I know she will get to go home with her family soon!

Casey made this headband for Lila while she was pregnant. Isn’t it adorable?
This is a bit different than most of my newborn photos, but I love the way it turned out. Casey collects antique Coca Cola items, so it was so much fun to be able to use one of them for Lila’s session.
That’s all the photos for now (there are a few more on my Facebook page) but I’m looking forward to posting photos of Casey and Lila when they are both home together!
